It has however not launched its previously announced winter only service between Nuremberg and Cairo and stopped plans for a new Stuttgart-Porto route in 2010. Air Berlin has also given up its Hamburg Fuhlsbüttel-Helsinki route on January 3 and will terminate its Cologne/Bonn-Graz and Stuttgart-Cagliari routes by the end of March and its Hanover-Stockholm Arlanda services on April 30. 24.01.2010 - AZAL Azerbaijan Airlines (J2/Baku) is replacing its single A320-200 and two Tu-154Ms still used on scheduled services by four newer ex-Air Berlin (AB/Berlin Tegel) and ex-Belair Airlines (4T/Zurich) A320-200s. 24.01.2010 - Belair Airlines (4T/Zurich) has gone through a change of ownership last quarter when Swiss tour operator and majority shareholder Hotelplan has sold its 51% stake in Belair to a trust in Switzerland. The remaining 49% are owned by Air Berlin (AB/Berlin Tegel) which also holds an option to take over the 51% from the new majority owner. Belair also has added a fifth ex-Air Berlin A320-200. It is adding some additional seasonal services that are still operated under the Belair AOC to non-EU countries: Zurich-Bodrum: weekly seasonal A320-200 service starting on May 22 Zurich-Luxor-Sharm el Sheikh-Zurich: weekly A320-200 service (already launched) Zurich-Monastir: weekly seasonal A320-200 service starting on May 8 24.01.2010 - Blue Wings (QW/Dusseldorf International) has been the first carrier in 2010 that has been forced to suspend operations. It has stopped its scheduled and charter services on January 13 due to financial difficulties. It is reportedly considering resuming operations and its CEO Jörn Hellwig is reportedly trying to acquire the 48% stake in Blue Wings held by Alpstream, an investment company controlled by Russian billionaire Alexander Lebedew. This would give Hellwig who already owns a 26% stake in the carrier majority control. Blue Wings had operated scheduled services from Germany to Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Russia, Syria and Turkey and wet-leased its A320-200s to carriers such as Air Berlin (AB/Berlin Tegel) and Safi Airways (4Q/Kabul) over the last couple of months. 11.10.2009 - Air Berlin (AB/Berlin Tegel) and TUIfly (Germany) (X3/Cologne/Bonn) have given up plans for cross-shareholding between the two companies. But TUI Travel has taken a 9.9% stake in Air Berlin by acquiring new shares for 33.5 million EUR and will go ahead with the proposed transfer of scheduled routes from TUIfly to Air Berlin. The transaction has also been approved by the German authorities and will see TUIfly operating all 11 B737-700s and 2 B737-800s on behalf of Air Berlin as of October 25 and an additional 14th aircraft as of next summer season. TUIfly will continue to operate its leisure routes on its own.
