29.08.2010 - Jat Airways (JU/Belgrade) is likely to be replaced by another new carrier in 2011 that would at least be partially owned by private investors and take over some its employees, routes and fleet. Serbian government members have publicly stated various times that the transition from Greek state owned Olympic Airlines to privately owned Olympic Air (OA/Athens) could serve as a role model. Air Serbia and JAT Air have been mentioned as possible names for the new carrier. The public announcements have however made it far more difficult for Jat to finance possible new aircraft deliveries because its lenders expect that loans might not be paid back by the current company anymore, it is planning to get loans to finance the lease of two B737-700s. Jat has also resumed talks with Airbus about an A319-100 order placed in the 1990s that is still outstanding since Jat Airways has only paid the first deposit for the order. Talks have already been held with Turkish Airlines (TK/Istanbul Atatürk) about a possible investment in a new national carrier. Jat has returned its single B737-400 to the lessor. It has sold its headquarter building to Telekom Srbija for 10.3 million EUR allowing it to pay back government loans. In the meantime, it has launched twice weekly seasonal ATR 72-200 service from Belgrade to Portoroz operating between April 15 and September 15. It has however yet again given up its Belgrade-Banja Luka route and not resumed its Belgrade-Pula route this summer season.

29.08.2010 - Montenegro Airlines (YM/Podgorica) has added a third EMB-195 and has launched new routes from its Podgorica base:
Podgorica-Copenhagen Kastrup: 3x weekly Fokker 100 service has started on May 1 (replacing route from Tivat operated last summer)
Podgorica-Nis: daily Fokker 100 service (already launched in February)
It is no longer operating seasonal services from Tivat to Dusseldorf Intl, London Gatwick, Skopje and Zurich this summer season. The only remaining routes from Tivat are Belgrade, Moscow Domodedovo and Paris CDG. Montenegro Airlines has also given up plans for a new Serbian subsidiary that was to be based in Nis. The government of Montenegro is now planning to sell 30% in the carrier to a private investor along with the option to increase that 30% stake to 51% after two years based on certain conditions. It will give up its Podgorica-Belgrade and Tivat-Belgrade routes by the end of October in favour of a cooperation agreement with Jat Airways (JU/Belgrade). The two carriers are also exploring cooperation on other routes.

29.08.2010 - Turkish Airlines (TK/Istanbul Ataturk) is reportedly also interested in acquiring Star Alliance partner Croatia Airlines (OU/Zagreb) and ailing Serbian national carrier Jat Airways (JU/Belgrade). It has however given up plans to set-up a subsidiary in Macedonia as a new national carrier there. THY has ordered one additional A330-200, ten B737-800s and ten B737-900ERs for deliveries between 2011 and 2014 while also securing options for additional 15 B737NG aircraft. It has also announced plans to order either five A380-800s or B747-8s for long haul routes with high demand. It now operates a total of four B777-300ER on dry-lease from Jet Airways (9W/Mumbai), an A330-200 wet-leased from bmi british midland (BD/East Midlands) and has also leased three additional ex-Bahrain Air (2B/Bahrain) A320-200s. THY has again announced a wide range of new short and long haul routes from Istanbul:
Istanbul Atatürk-Adler/Sochi: 3x weekly A320-200/B737-400 service has started on May 25
Istanbul Atatürk-Alexandria Borg el Arab: 4x weekly A319-100 service has started on June 19 (moving to Alexandria El Nohza on November 1)
Istanbul Atatürk-Bangkok Suvarnabhumi-Ho Chi Minh City: 4x weekly A340-300 service starting on December 30 (adding Ho Chi Minh City as new destination)
Istanbul Atatürk-Denizli: 2x daily B737-700/-800 service resuming on September 1
Istanbul Atatürk-Entebbe-Dar es Salaam: 3x weekly A330-200 service has started on June 13
Istanbul Atatürk-Lagos-Accra: 4x weekly A330-200/A340-300 service has started on July 15 (adding Accra as new destination)
Istanbul Atatürk-Los Angeles: 4x weekly B777-300ER service starting on March 3, 2011
Istanbul Atatürk-Podgorica: 3x weekly A319-100 service has started on July 8
Istanbul Atatürk-Washington Dulles-Atlanta: 5x weekly A330-200 service starting on November 7
Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen-Brussels Ntl: 4x weekly seasonal A320-200 service has started on May 16
THY has however given up its routes from Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen to Berlin Schönefeld, Cologne/Bonn, Hanover and Stuttgart earlier this year. Turkish Airlines has also announced Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Malaga, Manila, Melbourne Tullamarine, Toulouse and Valencia as new destinations that it is planning to add later this or next year. THY and Aeroflot (SU/Moscow Sheremetyevo) are reportedly considering setting up a joint subsidiary based on the business model of Sun Express (XQ/Antalya), the very successful joint venture with Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt Intl). Turkish Airlines and Swiss (LX/Zurich) have signed a codeshare agreement covering the routes from Basle/Mulhouse, Geneva and Zurich to Istanbul Atatürk. It has also started codesharing on Air China (CA/Beijing) services between Beijing and Shanghai Pu Dong. In addition, THY has applied for permission to being codesharing with US Star Alliance partner US Airways (US/Phoenix).

24.01.2010 - Adria Airways (JP/Ljubljana) will launch six times weekly CRJ-200 service from Ljubljana to Belgrade on March 1. It has however given up its Ljubljana-Ohrid route. Adria will be forced to move its operations from Ljubljana to Maribor between April 7 and April 20 when Ljubljana airport will be closed for runway renovation works. easyJet (U2/London Luton) will temporarily suspend its London Luton-Ljubljana route during this period. Jat Airways (JU/Belgrade) will move its services to Portoroz and Turkish Airlines (TK/Istanbul Ataturk) is reportedly also considering serving Maribor. It is unclear at this point what alternatives will be chosen by Air France (AF/Paris CDG), CSA Czech Airlines (OK/Prague) and Montenegro Airlines (YM/Podgorica), the other carriers serving Ljubljana on a scheduled basis.

24.01.2010 - Jat Airways (JU/Belgrade) has made more network changes:
Belgrade-Larnaca-Dubai: 3x weekly B737-300 service resuming on April 1
Belgrade-Ljubljana: 4x weekly ATR 72-200 service (already launched)
After the announcement of its new Dubai service, it has announced that it will stop serving Abu Dhabi on February 4. The Abu Dhabi route had been launched after Jat had failed to renew a favourable interline agreement with Emirates (EK/Dubai) for the large amount of traffic between Serbia and Australia that it then unsuccessfully tried to replace with a similar agreement with Etihad Airways (EY/Abu Dhabi Intl). It has temporarily suspended its Belgrade-Banja Luka services until March 28 when three weekly ATR 72-200 flights will be resumed on the route. It has announced that it was considering adding direct flights from Banja Luka to several Western European destinations if it is able to secure sufficient traffic rights. Similar plans to launch a new subsidiary in Macedonia, tentatively called Aeromak, seem to have failed after it has not received an operating license. Jat has entered into a bilateral codeshare agreement with Austrian Airlines (OS/Vienna) for the Belgrade-Vienna route allowing the carriers to offer up to five daily services. It has announced 550 job cuts as part of a plan to return back to profitability by 2011. The plan also includes the replacement of its single B737-400 by a B737-700 later in 2010. According to several news reports over the last couple of months, Olympic Air (OA/Athens) parent Marfin Investment Group, Aeroflot (SU/Moscow Sheremetyevo) and Turkish Airlines (TK/Istanbul Ataturk) have all declared their interest in taking over or partnering with Jat Airways should the airline be privatized.
