Brussels Airlines (SN/Brussels) is planning to lease its two first A320-200s next year that will operate on charter services on behalf of Club Med. It has already taken delivery of two additional ex-Kayala Airline and ex-Meridiana fly (IG/Olbia) A319-100. It has also wet-leased a Dash 8-400 from Augsburg Airways (IQ/Augsburg) for its Brussels Ntl-Hanover route. Brussels Airlines has given up its Brussels Ntl-Frankfurt Intl route on March 28 in favour of the eight daily codeshare services operated by parent Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt Intl). It has however launched several new routes to Africa thanks to the fifth ex-Malaysia Airlines (MH/Kuala Lumpur Intl) A330-300 now being in operation since July 5 adding Accra, Cotonou, Lomé and Ouagadougou to its network by rerouting its services to the region:

Brussels Airlines has started codesharing with its four North American Star Alliance partners Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau), Continental Airlines (CO/Houston Intcl), United Airlines (UA/Chicago O’Hare) and US Airways (US/Phoenix). Air Canada operates a four times weekly Brussels Ntl-Montreal Trudeau-Toronto Pearson service, Continental operates a daily B767-400ER service from Brussels Ntl to New York Newark, United operates a daily B767-300ER services to Chicago O’Hare and Washington Dulles and US Airways operates daily B757-200 services to Philadelphia. Brussels Airlines has also started codesharing on the Hainan Airlines (HU/Haikou) A330-200 services from Brussels Ntl to Beijing and Shanghai Pu Dong and on the twice daily services between Brussels Ntl and Helsinki operated by Star Alliance partner Blue 1 (KF/Helsinki).
Thomas Cook Airlines UK (MT/Manchester) has announced new routes from Aberdeen to Monastir, from Belfast Intl to Reus and Sharm el Sheikh, from Bournemouth to Antalya, from Cardiff to Malaga and Monastir, from Exeter to Monastir and from Newcastle to Bourgas and Izmir. It will operate six B757-200s on behalf of Air Canada Jazz (QK/Halifax) this winter season that will operate charter services for Thomas Cook subsidiary Sunquest Vacations from Canada to holiday destinations in the Caribbean, Florida and Mexico. Thomas Cook Airlines UK itself has wet-leased both B757-200 and a B737-300 from Aurela (LSK/Vilnius) for the summer charter season. It has also added a ninth and tenth ex-Skyservice Airlines A320-200. For 2011 it has also announced new seasonal services from Bournemouth to Dalaman and Kerkyra, from Bristol to Izmir, from Doncaster/Sheffield to Antalya, from East Midlands to Funchal and Hurghada, from Humberside to Enfidha, from Leeds/Bradford to Kos, from London Gatwick to Djerba, from Manchester to Djerba, from Newcastle to Hurghada and from Southampton to Palma de Mallorca.

bmi british midland (BD/East Midlands) will remain a Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt Intl) subsidiary for the foreseeable future. Lufthansa has put an end to all of the sale speculations by officially announcing that it has no intention to sell bmi. It has however announced a restructuring plan that will see bmi returning two of its three A330-200s and three A320-200s and two A321-200s to the lessors during 2010 as well as cutting up to 600 jobs and more routes. Business Class service has been dropped on all domestic services and flights to Dublin as of January 24. bmi has already given up its routes from London Heathrow to Aleppo, Kiev Borispol and Tel Aviv Ben Gurion on January 10. It has also transferred the London Heathrow-Brussels Ntl route to sister carrier Brussels Airlines (SN/Brussels Ntl) on the same day and will terminate its London Heathrow-Amsterdam services on March 27. It will replace the Amsterdam route with a new twice daily A320-200 service linking London Heathrow and Vienna that will be launched on March 28. bmi has signed a new codeshare agreement with Aegean Airlines (A3/Athens) covering the London Heathrow-Athens route operated by Aegean Airlines and connections via both hubs operated by the two carriers. It also has renewed and negotiated similar deals with both Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) and Continental Airlines (CO/Houston Intcl) for UK-US and UK-Canada services operated by its two North American Star Alliance partners. In addition, it is now codesharing on the two daily Malaysia Airlines (MH/Kuala Lumpur Intl) B747-400 services between London Heathrow and Kuala Lumpur Intl.

bmi british midland (BD/East Midlands) has been and still is the topic of a lot of speculation this year with British Airways (BA/London Heathrow), Etihad Airways (EY/Abu Dhabi Intl), Flybe. (BE/Exeter) and Virgin Atlantic (VS/London Heathrow) all more or less openly declaring their interest in taking over the carrier should Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt Intl) choose to sell. bmi has started codesharing on the SriLankan Airlines (UL/ Colombo Bandaranaike Intl) route from London Heathrow via Male to Colombo and has also filed for DOT approval to start a bilateral codeshare agreement with new Star Alliance partner Continental Airlines (CO/Houston Intcl). It has however terminated a similar codeshare agreement with Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) for services between the UK and Canada. bmi has given up its regional routes from East Midlands to Cologne/Bonn on September 18 and from Manchester to Glasgow Intl on September 19 and will give up its London Heathrow-Palma de Mallorca route on November 4 and its London Heathrow-Venice Marco Polo services on November 16.

Spanair (JK/Barcelona) has launched twice weekly A320-200/MD-87 service from Palma de Mallorca to Algiers on June 21. It has however given up its Madrid-Vigo route on March 28 and has not launched its planned Barcelona-Almeria services. Spanair and Star Alliance partner Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) have entered into a codeshare agreement that covers the new Air Canada services from Toronto Pearson to Madrid and domestic connections services from both airports. It now also has put its code on Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt Intl) services from Barcelona and Madrid to Milan Malpensa.
TAP Portugal (TP/Lisbon) has now finalized scheduled for its new routes announced earlier this year:
Lisbon-Helsinki: 5x weekly A320-200 service starting on June 10
Lisbon-Moscow Domodedovo: 5x weekly A319-100 service starting on June 9
Lisbon-Warsaw: 5x weekly A320-200 service starting on June 9
It has signed a codeshare agreement with Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) offering connections from Lisbon and Porto via New York Newark to Montreal Trudeau and Toronto Pearson.

Swiss (LX/Zurich) will launch up to three times weekly A320-200 service from Zurich to Catania on April 10. It has temporarily wet-leased A330-300s from Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) between October 26 and December 14 to operate its daily Zurich-Montreal Trudeau flight because of crew shortages. It also uses A320-200s of subsidiary Edelweiss Air (WK/Zurich) for services from Zurich to Amsterdam and Berlin Tegel now. Swiss will receive two additional A330-300s or a total of eleven aircraft as parent Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt Intl) has reallocated two of its own orders to Swiss. Swiss and Star Alliance partner EgyptAir (MS/Cairo) have started codesharing on the Swiss route linking Zurich and Cairo and the EgyptAir route linking Geneva and Cairo.

Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt International) will most likely take full control of its subsidiaries Eurowings (EW/Dortmund) and germanwings (4U/Cologne/Bonn) by taking over the 51% stake of majority owner Albert Knauf. Lufthansa has given up plans to transfer two A330-200s back from its Swiss (LX/Zurich) subsidiary. Lufthansa has finalized plans to transfer six A319-100s to its subsidiary Air Dolomiti (EN/Trieste) to launch a new base at Milan Malpensa in February 2009. It will also deliver six EMB-190s to Air Dolomiti to replace its BAe 146-300 fleet. Air Dolomiti and Lufthansa are planning to serve Barcelona, Brussels Ntl, Bucharest Otopeni, Budapest, Lisbon, London, Madrid and Paris CDG. In other news, Lufthansa has implemented a codeshare agreement with TAM Linhas Aéreas (JJ/Sao Paulo Congonhas). As of August 18, the two carriers cooperate on all services between Germany and Brazil and offer connection services from the gateways in both countries. Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) and United Airlines (UA/Chicago OHare) have asked for US approval to include Continental Airlines (CO/Houston Intcl) in their transatlantic joint-venture. Lufthansa will give up its Dusseldorf-Belgrade, Dusseldorf-Nice, Frankfurt-Lahore, Hamburg-Barcelona, Hamburg-Nice and Hamburg-Rome Fiumicino routes on October 26 and will temporarily suspend its own Munich-Washington Dulles services for the winter season. It has already given up its Hamburg-Birmingham and Stuttgart-Prague routes.

Corsair (SS/Paris Orly) has entered into a codeshare agreement with Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) for the Canada-France market. It will put its code on Air Canada services from Paris CDG to Montreal Trudeau and Toronto Pearson. Air Canada will codeshare on two new Corsair routes:
Paris Orly-Halifax: weekly A330-200 service starting on June 25 (triangle flight Paris-Quebec-Halifax-Paris)
Paris Orly-Quebec City: 2x weekly A330-200 service starting on June 7
TAP Portugal (TP/Lisbon) will add two ex-Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) A319-100s.

Air Malta (KM/Malta) will wet-lease two of its A320-200s to Etihad Airways (EY/Abu Dhabi) and operate regional services on behalf of the UAE carrier out of Abu Dhabi. Air Malta partner Lat Charter (6Y/Riga) will also operate an ex-Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) A320-200 on behalf of Etihad. Air Malta will launch twice weekly A319-100/B737-300 service from Malta to Bologna Marconi on December 17.

Iberia (IB/Madrid Barajas) will launch daily Madrid-Genoa service on October 28 using Air Nostrum (YW/Valencia) CRJ-200s. It will however give up its Barcelona-Hanover route the day before. It has oredered three additional A340-600s and will lease four additional ex-Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau), ex-Air France (AF/Paris CDG), ex-Austrian Airlines (OS/Vienna) and ex-BWIA West Indies Airways A340-300s.

Swiss (LX/Zurich) will place an order for 9 A330-300s through its parent Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt). It will also lease three additional ex-Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) A340-300s. Swiss has wet-leased a BAe 146-300 from Flightline (UK) (B5/Southend) for its Zurich-Birmingham route and a MD-82 from Spanair (JK/Palma de Mallorca) for its Zurich-Nice and Zurich-Madrid routes until the end of the summer season. The new longhaul aircraft will allow Swiss to open new longhaul services:
Zurich-Delhi: daily A330-200 service starting on November 25
Zurich-Shanghai Pu Dong: daily A340-300 service starting on March 30, 2008
In other news, Swiss has signed a codeshare agreement with Star Alliance partner US Airways (US/Charlotte).

Air Comet (A7/Madrid Barajas) has wet-leased a MD-83 from MAP Jet (MPJ/Vienna). It has also leased a third ex-Air Madrid A340-300 and two ex-Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) and ex-Air Moldova (9U/Chisinau) A320-200s.
XL Airways France (SE/Paris CDG) will lease a fourth ex-Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) A320-200 later this spring.

Air Comet (A7/Madrid Barajas) is the new brand of Spanish operator Air Plus Comet. It has added an ex-Virgin Atlantic (VS/London Heathrow) A340-300 and an ex-Spanair (JK/Palma de Mallorca) MD-83 to its fleet. It will add a second ex-BWIA West Indies Airways A340-300 as well as two ex-Air Madrid A330-200s and an ex-Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) A320-200 to launch several former Air Madrid routes:
Madrid-Buenos Aires Ezeiza: 2x weekly A340-300 service (already launched)
Madrid-Quito-Guayaquil: 3x weekly A330-200 service starting on April 3

Swiss (LX/Zurich) will lease two A340-300s from Austrian Airlines (OS/Vienna) and two additional ex-Air Canada (AC/Montreal Trudeau) aircraft of the same type next year. It will also add two ex-Turkish Airlines (TK/Istanbul Ataturk) A320-200s. Swiss has also wet-leased a single Fokker 100 from Helvetic Airways (2L/Zurich) for its Zurich-Manchester route until the end of February. It is expected to add several ARJ-85s or ARJ-100s to the fleet of its subsidiary Swiss European Air Lines (LX/Zurich) next year as well. Swiss has announced several new routes out of Basle/Mulhouse and Geneva to be operated by Swiss European:
Basle/Mulhouse-Barcelona: 5x weekly ARJ-100 service starting on January 15
Basle/Mulhouse-Budapest: 4x weekly ARJ-100 service starting on January 16
