Viking Hellas Aviation (VQ/Athens) has leased two ex-Windjet (IV/Catania) A320-200s. It has launched weekly A320-200 service from Amsterdam to Erbil on June 19 but has already given up again its route from Athens to Baghdad.

Windjet (IV/Catania) has introduced new routes from its Bologna Forli and Catania bases with its fleet of A319-100s and A320-200s:
Bologna Forli-Copenhagen Kastrup: 2x weekly service has started on March 28
Bologna Forli-Sharm el Sheikh: weekly seasonal service starting on December 20
Catania-Sharm el Sheikh: weekly seasonal service starting on December 26
Milan Orio al Serio-Moscow Domodedovo: 3x weekly service starting on September 21
Milan Orio al Serio-St. Petersburg: weekly service starting on October 24

Windjet (IV/Catania) has introduced new routes from its Bologna Forli base and has added an eighth ex-Dragonair (KA/Hong Kong) A320-200:
Bologna Forli-London Gatwick: 2x weekly A319-100 service starting on March 28 (replacing Luton route previously operated)
Bologna Forli-Nis: weekly A320-200 service has started on December 26
Bologna Forli-Olbia: 3x weekly seasonal A319-100 service between June 18 and September 19
Bologna Forli-Tallinn: weekly seasonal A319-100 service between June 9 and September 1
Catania-Lyon-Marseilles-Catania: weekly seasonal A319-100 service starting on April 9
Catania-Nantes-Toulouse-Catania: weekly seasonal A319-100 service starting on April 9
Catania-Prague: 2x weekly seasonal A320-200 service between June 6 and September 26
Palermo-Lyon-Marseilles-Catania: weekly seasonal A319-100 service starting on April 9
Palermo-Nantes-Toulouse-Catania: weekly seasonal A319-100 service starting on April 9
Pisa-Moscow Domodedovo: weekly seasonal A320-200 service between May 22 and September 11
Pisa-St. Petersburg: weekly seasonal A320-200 service between May 29 and September 11
It has however given up its routes from Forli to Cagliari and Rome Fiumicino on January 10.

Windjet (IV/Catania) has terminated its routes from Bologna Forli to Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels Ntl, Krakow and Riga and from Catania to Malta. It has however also introduced new routes:
Bologna Forli-Rome Fiumicino: up to 2x daily A319-100 service starting on October 25
Catania-Milan Orio al Serio: daily A320-200 service has resumed on September 21

Meridiana (IG/Olbia) will resume four times weekly seasonal A319-100 service from Florence to Palermo between June 2 and September 2. It has not suspended its public service obligation routes from Catania, Palermo and Trapani to Lampedusa and Pantelleria and still wet-leased three ATR 42-300s for these services and other regional flights out of Cagliari. Meridiana has however terminated its Verona-Naples route at the end of March and will also pull out of the Naples-Venice Marco Polo route on September 30. It will return one of its four A319-100s to the lessor after the summer season. It has entered into a codeshare agreement with Blu Express (BV/Rome Fiumicino) and is now selling Blu Express services from Rome Fiumicino to Lamezia Terme, Nice and Turin while Blu Express is selling Meridiana flights from Rome Fiumicino to Cagliari, Olbia and Verona. Meridiana and Windjet (IV/Catania) have also extended their codeshare agreement to include additional routes such as Catania-Turin, Catania-Verona, Rome Fiumicino-Catania and Rome Fiumicino-Palermo.

Windjet (IV/Catania) is considering leasing two A330-200s for longhaul services from Bologna Forli that would be launched in 2010. It has also added a Piaggio Avanti for business charters. It has already given up its new routes from Bologna Forli to Naples and Timisoara again but will launch twice weekly A319-100 service from Bologna Forli to London Luton on July 2. It has already launched a twice weekly A320-200 service between Catania and Malta on June 6.

XL Airways France (SE/Paris CDG) is now essentially owned by the Icelandic government after the latter has taken control of XL Airways France owner Straumur. XL has leased two ex-Aerolineas Argentinas (AR/Buenos Aires Ezeiza) and ex-Volareweb.com (VE/Milan Malpensa) A320-200s and will add an ex-Windjet (IV/Catania) later this summer when it will operate a total of six A320-200s. It has introduced new longhaul routes:
Paris CDG-New York JFK: 2x weekly seasonal A330-200 service starting on June 26
Paris CDG-Samana-Punta Cana: weekly seasonal A330-200 service has started on May 14
It has however dropped Freeport, Nassau and Varadero from its longhaul network.

Windjet (IV/Catania) has given up plans for a seasonal Bologna Forli-Olbia service this summer. It has however announced weekly seasonal triangle services from Catania and Palermo via Nantes-Lyon back to Sicily. Weekly A320-200 services from both airports in Sicily will start on April 10 and April 11.

Wizz Air (W6/Budapest) has reacted to the financial problems of SkyEurope Airlines (NE/Bratislava) by very quickly setting up a new base in Prague:
Cluj-Bologna Forli: 3x weekly A320-200 service starting on June 13 (replacing route to Bologna Marconi announced earlier)
Katowice-Bologna Forli: 2x weekly A320-200 service starting on March 30 (replacing route to Bologna Marconi)
Kiev Borispol-Antalya: 3x weekly seasonal A320-200 service starting on May 14 (operated by Wizz Air Ukraine (WU/Kiev Borispol))
Prague-Brussels Charleroi: 3x weekly A320-200 service has started on February 19
Prague-Eindhoven: 3x weekly A320-200 service starting on June 27
Prague-London Luton: 3x weekly A320-200 service has started on February 18
Prague-Madrid: 3x weekly A320-200 service starting on July 11
Prague-Malmö: 4x weekly A320-200 service starting on July 12
Prague-Milan Orio al Serio: 3x weekly A320-200 service has started on February 19
Prague-Naples: 3x weekly A320-200 service starting on July 11

Wizz has given up its Wroclaw-Dortmund route last month. Wizz Air has also given up plans for a new route linking Bucharest Baneasa and Bologna Marconi in the meantime as no competition with Windjet (IV/Catania) routes out of Forli reportedly was one of the conditions of a new favourable agreement between Forli airport and Wizz. Wizz Air Ukraine has announced plans to launch new routes from Kiev Borispol and Simferopol to Moscow this summer season if it is able to secure slots and traffic rights.


XL Airways France (SE/Paris CDG) has been put up for sale by its Icelandic owner, investment bank Straumur. It has entered into a codeshare agreement with Windjet (IV/Catania) covering all services between France and Italy operated by both carriers.

Windjet (IV/Catania) has added three ex-Spirit Airlines (NK/Fort Lauderdale) A319-100s and will expand its presence at Bologna Forli next summer season and base an A319-100 at the airport to launch a variety of new routes:
Bologna Forli-Amsterdam: 2x weekly service starting on March 31
Bologna Forli-Barcelona: 2x weekly seasonal service between June 20 and September 26
Bologna Forli-Berlin Tegel: 2x weekly service starting on March 29
Bologna Forli-Brussels Ntl: 2x weekly service starting on March 31
Bologna Forli-Cagliari: 6x weekly service starting on March 29
Bologna Forli-Krakow: 2x weekly service starting on March 31
Bologna Forli-Lampedusa: weekly service starting on March 29
Bologna Forli-Naples: 6x weekly service starting on March 30
Bologna Forli-Paris CDG: 2x weekly service starting on April 1
Bologna Forli-Prague: 2x weekly service starting on March 30
Bologna Forli-Riga: weekly service starting on June 10

It has also announced plans for a twice weekly route linking Forli and Olbia during vacation months.

Meridiana (IG/Olbia) has announced plans to cut 145 jobs and is reportedly considering to terminate several routes as part of a cost cutting programme. It has resumed twice weekdaily MD-82 service between Milan Linate and Rome Fiumicino on September 22. Meridiana has taken over public service obligation routes out of Sicilia from Air One (AP/Rome Fiumicino) on October 26 using Avanti Air (EEX/Siegerland) ATR 42-300s:
Catania-Lampedusa: 3x weekly service
Palermo-Lampedusa: 3x daily service
Palermo-Pantelleria: 9x weekly service
Palermo-Trapani-Pantelleria: daily service
Meridian and Windjet (IV/Catania) have entered into a blocked space codeshare agreement for the Catania-Turin route offering a total of four daily services. It has given up plans for a Venice Marco Polo-Catania route instead.

Alitalia (AZ/Rome Fiumicino) has received another 300 million EUR bridge loan from the Italian government to keep the carrier flying while the government is trying to find new potential buyers. Air Italy (I9/Milan Malpensa), Livingston Energy Flight (LM/Milan Malpensa), Neos (NO/Milan Malpensa) and Windjet (IV/Catania) have filed complaints with the European Commission claiming the loan for Alitalia was an illegal state subsidy. Malpensa airport operator SEA has sued Alitalia over the flight cuts at the airport. Alitalia has sued SEA in return over the lack of investments into the facilities at Malpensa and for the damages caused by the initial lawsuit. Alitalia has given up its routes from Milan Malpensa to Brussels, Florence, Pisa, Venice Marco Polo and Vienna earlier this month. It will also stop codesharing with Qatar Airways (QR/Doha) by the end of the month.

Windjet (IV/Catania) will launch a weekly A320-200 service from Bologna Forli to Rostov on June 10.

Windjet (IV/Catania) has leased two ex-Air France (AF/Paris CDG) A319-100s. It will launch several new routes to Russia:
Catania-Moscow Domodedovo: weekly A320-200 service starting on April 10
Catania-St. Petersburg: weekly A320-200 service starting on April 14
Verona-Moscow Domodedovo: 2x weekly A320-200 service starting on March 27
Verona-St. Petersburg: 2x weekly A320-200 service starting on March 27
It has however not moved its Bologna Forli-Bucharest Otopeni route to Verona as previously reported.

Windjet (IV/Catania) will launch daily A320-200 service from Palermo to Pisa and twice weekly A320-200 service from Verona to Bucharest Baneasa on January 29. It will however give up its Bologna Forli-Bucharest Baneasa route at the same time.
