29.08.2010

Icejet (ICJ/Reykjavik Domestic) has ceased operations with its four Do328-300 business jets on August 25 as it has failed to agree with the lessor on a new dry lease agreement for the aircraft.

Icelandair (FI/Reykjavik Keflavik) has received new investment of over 25 million EUR from Icelandic investment and pension funds allowing it to continue its financial restructuring plan. It has leased a second B767-300ER from Amiri Flight (MO/Abu Dhabi Intl) and will sublease the aircraft to Air Niugini (PX/Port Moresby) shortly. Icelandair has again wet-leased its other B767-300ER to SBA Airlines (S3/Maracaibo). It has also added its 20th B757-200, an ex-Titan Airways (ZT/London Stansted) aircraft but is planning to order some smaller A320-200s or B737-800s for niche markets. Icelandair has started codesharing with Alaska Airlines (AS/Seattle/Tacoma) on US domestic services from Seattle/Tacoma to Los Angeles and San Francisco. It has also announced new seasonal routes from Reykjavik Keflavik for the summer season 2011:
Reykjavik Keflavik-Billund: 3x weekly seasonal B757-200 service starting on June 1
Reykjavik Keflavik-Gothenburg Landvetter: 2x weekly seasonal B757-200 service starting on June 24
Reykjavik Keflavik-Hamburg Fuhlsbüttel: 2x weekly seasonal B757-200 service starting on June 3

Iceland Express (Reykjavik Keflavik) is launching two new routes to Austria and the US in 2011 operated by Astraeus (5W/London Gatwick):
Reykjavik Keflavik-Boston: 4x weekly seasonal B757-200 service starting on June 13, 2011
Reykjavik Keflavik-Chicago O’Hare: weekly seasonal B757-200 service starting on June 10, 2011

Imair (IK/Baku) has already suspended its operations with two Tu-154Ms in November 2009.

InterSky (3L/Friedrichshafen) has wet-leased an ATR 42-300 from Avanti Air (AX/Siegerland) to launch twice daily Friedrichshafen-Dusseldorf Intl service on May 10. It will replace it with a fifth ex-Tyrolean Airways (VO/Innsbruck) Dash 8-300 later this year.

Janes Aviation (Southend) has requested for its air operator certificate to be withdrawn in March 2010 so it is most likely not going ahead with its plans to resuming cargo operations with its BAe 748 freighter fleet.

Jat Airways (JU/Belgrade) is likely to be replaced by another new carrier in 2011 that would at least be partially owned by private investors and take over some its employees, routes and fleet. Serbian government members have publicly stated various times that the transition from Greek state owned Olympic Airlines to privately owned Olympic Air (OA/Athens) could serve as a role model. Air Serbia and JAT Air have been mentioned as possible names for the new carrier. The public announcements have however made it far more difficult for Jat to finance possible new aircraft deliveries because its lenders expect that loans might not be paid back by the current company anymore, it is planning to get loans to finance the lease of two B737-700s. Jat has also resumed talks with Airbus about an A319-100 order placed in the 1990s that is still outstanding since Jat Airways has only paid the first deposit for the order. Talks have already been held with Turkish Airlines (TK/Istanbul Atatürk) about a possible investment in a new national carrier. Jat has returned its single B737-400 to the lessor. It has sold its headquarter building to Telekom Srbija for 10.3 million EUR allowing it to pay back government loans. In the meantime, it has launched twice weekly seasonal ATR 72-200 service from Belgrade to Portoroz operating between April 15 and September 15. It has however yet again given up its Belgrade-Banja Luka route and not resumed its Belgrade-Pula route this summer season.

It has already given up all of its routes from Bydgoszcz to Berlin Tegel, Copenhagen, Katowice Krakow (via Poznan), Vienna (via Lodz) and Warsaw as well as its Gdansk-Turku route earlier this year and therefore no longer serves Bydgoszcz and Lodz or any international destinations. Instead it has launched a new twice weekly seasonal Jetstream 31 from Gdansk to Rzeszow between June 25 and August 29. This will leave Jet Air with a domestic network serving Gdansk-Krakow, Gdansk-Poznan, Poznan-Krakow, Warsaw-Gdansk and Warsaw-Zielona Gora.
