Lufthansa Cargo (LH/Frankfurt International) has temporarily parked two additional MD-11F freighters to further cut its capacity following a worldwide slowdown in cargo demand. It is expecting to only use 13 of its 19 MD-11F freighters next winter season. Lufthansa Cargo will move its stops for flights to East Asia from Astana to Krasnoyarsk as of June 1. In other news, it has entered into a cooperation agreement with Astral Aviation (8V/Nairobi Intl) that will provide connection services from Nairobi to Burundi, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. Lufthansa Cargo has wet-leased an A300B4-100F from ACT Airlines (9T/Istanbul Ataturk) for its Frankfurt Intl-Istanbul Ataturk services.
Lufthansa CityLine (CL/Cologne/Bonn) has been allocated 16 EMB-190s and four EMB-195s from an order made by parent Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt Intl). It will start taking delivery of the aircraft later this year to replace ARJ-85s and CRJ-200s.
Luxair (LG/Luxembourg) has not finalized its previously announced order for a single B737-800. Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt Intl) will increase its stake in Luxair to 20% according to statements from the Luxembourg transport ministry. Luxair has launched new seasonal services:
Luxembourg-Ajaccio: weekly seasonal ERJ-145 service between May 30 and September 26
Metz/Nancy-Ajaccio: weekly seasonal ERJ-145 service between May 30 and September 26
Malev (MA/Budapest) will receive another 10 million EUR in funding from its Russian shareholder Vnesheconombank (VEB) as part of its current restructuring plan. Malev has now taken delivery of two additional ex-SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK/Copenhagen Kastrup) Dash 8-400s and will shortly add a fourth aircraft of the type. It will however resume three times weekly B767-300ER service from Amsterdam to Orlando Intl on October 26 and has also announced plans to resume seasonal services to Mombasa and Zanzibar. Because of a drop in cargo demand Martinair has temporarily stored two B747-400Fs and is expected to put its remaining two other B747-400Fs into storage as well because of the drop in cargo demand. It will temporarily wet-lease two B747-400F freighters from parent KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL/Amsterdam) instead.
MAT Macedonian Airlines (IN/Skopje) has been forced to at least temporarily suspend operations after its single B737-500 has been sent to Belgrade for maintenance and the Macedonian civil aviation authority requested additional maintenance work before the aircraft can return back to service.
