07NOV2012: New investors planning to revive City Airline operation from Gothenburg
City Airline (CF, Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT)) is considering relaunching regional operations from its previous base at Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT) operating on some of the routes left unserved since it and its sister carrier Skyways (JZ, Stockholm Arlanda (ARN)) had been forced to file for bankruptcy in May of this year. New investors now plan to revive the regional carrier and to build up a fleet of up to seven ERJ-145s by the end of next year.

Sun-Air (EZ, Billund (BLL)) currently wet-leases three Do328-100s from German charter carrier MHS Aviation (Germany) (MHV, Munich Franz Josef Strauss International (MUC)). It needs the additional aircraft because of all of its new routes recently opened making use of the void left by City Airline (CF, Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT)) and Cimber Sterling (QI, Sønderborg (SGD)).

Aerosvit Airlines (VV, Kiev Borispol (KBP)) is reportedly unable to finance the acquisition of its latest B737-800 UR-AAO (MSN 38120) which has now been temporarily stored at Seattle Boeing Field King County International (BFI) for three weeks already. Aerosvit along with Dniproavia (Z6, Dnepropetrovsk (DNK)) and Donbassaero (7D, Donetsk (DOK)) are controlled by the PrivatBank Group in which Igor Kolomoyskyi, who had owned bankrupt Scandinavian regional carriers Cimber Sterling (QI, Sønderborg (SGD)), City Airline (CF, Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT)) and Skyways (JZ, Stockholm Arlanda (ARN)) through his Cyprus based investment company Mansvell, is a major shareholder.

22MAY2012: Skyways and City Airline forced to file for bankruptcy, suspend operations
Skyways (JZ, Stockholm Arlanda (ARN)) and its sister carrier City Airline (CF, Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT)) have filed for bankruptcy and suspended operations on May 22. Both carriers were owned by Mansvell Enterprises controlled by Ukrainian business man Igor Kolomoyskyi just like Cimber Sterling (QI, Sønderborg (SGD)) which had been forced to file for bankruptcy at the beginning of the month. Skyways had used 11 Fokker 50s operated by Avia Express (Stockholm Arlanda (ARN)) mainly on domestic routes in Sweden and international routes to Denmark and Norway. City Airline operated 6 ERJ-145s and 2 ERJ-135s from Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT) to Luleå Kallax (LLA), Lyon St. Exupéry (LYS), Manchester Ringway International (MAN), Prague Vaclav Havel Ruzyne (PRG) and Zurich Kloten (ZRH).

Skyways (JZ, Stockholm Arlanda (ARN)) will take over several routes left unserved by bankrupt sister carrier Cimber Sterling (QI, Sønderborg (SGD)). From May 21, it will operate up to three daily ERJ-145 services between Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) and Billund (BLL) using City Airline (CF, Gothenburg Landvetter (GOT)) aircraft. It has already launched twice daily service between Norrköping Kungsängen (NRK) and Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH) on May 7 using Avia Express (Stockholm Arlanda (ARN)) Fokker 50s. Skyways will also use the Fokker 50 based at Norrköping for a weekdaily seasonal service to Visby (VBY) this summer (another route previously served by Cimber Sterling). Skyways is considering entering the Danish domestic market but has not yet announced the routes it plans to serve.
