29APR2013: EVA Air set to become full Star Alliance member in June
EVA Air (BR, Taipei Taoyuan International (TPE)) will officially join Star Alliance as its 27th member on June 18, 2013, the carrier has stated. The announcement comes after the Taiwanese carrier signed an agreement with the Star Alliance in Taipei last year, paving the way for its full membership later this year. EVA is Taiwan's second biggest carrier and has a global network that stretches from Asia to Europe, North America and Oceania, linking more than 60 cities. Its larger competitor, China Airlines (CI, Taipei Taoyuan International (TPE)), joined Skyteam in September 2011 becoming its 15th member.

08APR2013: Eastar Jet, TWay Air to cooperate on Taipei route
Eastar Jet (ZE, Seoul Gimpo (GMP)) and fellow LCC T'way Air (TW, Cheong Ju International (CJJ)) are to begin a unilateral codeshare operation from April 29, covering the airlines' Seoul Gimpo (GMP) to Taipei Sung Shan (TSA) service. However, Eastar Jet will place its “ZE” code on T’Way Air flights, but not vice versa. Eastar Jet currently operates the route thrice weekly using B737-700s while T'Way Air operates four times weekly with B737-800s. The two South Korean LCCs compete with Taiwanese carriers China Airlines (CI, Taipei Taoyuan International (TPE)) and EVA Air (BR, Taipei Taoyuan International (TPE)) on the route between the two airports located close to the city centres of both capitals.

29MAR2013: Japan-Taiwan bilateral agreement to allow unlimited Tokyo flights
ANA - All Nippon Airways (NH, Tokyo Haneda (HND)) and competitors China Airlines (CI, Taipei Taoyuan International (TPE)), EVA Air (BR, Taipei Taoyuan International (TPE)) and JAL - Japan Airlines (JL, Tokyo Haneda (HND)) will likely see increased competition between Tokyo and Taiwan following Japan’s decision to remove restrictions from the bilateral air services agreement with Taiwan that had put a limit on the number of weekly flights between Tokyo and Taiwan. All four carriers currently operate from Taipei Sung Shan (TSA) to Tokyo Haneda (HND) and from Taipei Taoyuan International (TPE) to Tokyo Narita New Tokyo International (NRT). In addition, Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong Chep Lap Kok International (HKG)), Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson International (ATL)) and low-cost carrier Scoot (TZ, Singapore Changi International (SIN)) currently operate between Taipei Taoyuan and Tokyo Narita. While Haneda is heavily slot constrained, other Japanese and Taiwanese carriers are expected to launch flights from Narita in coming months.
