Binter Canarias (NT, Las Palmas Gran Canaria International (LPA)) will wet-lease a CRJ-200 from Air Nostrum (YW, Valencia Manises (VLC)) from September 11 to be able to launch two new twice weekly scheduled services from Las Palmas Gran Canaria International (LPA) to Lisbon Portela de Sacavem (LIS) and Praia Nelson Mandela International (RAI). Binter currently already serves Funchal (FNC) as well as four destinations in Morocco. It had previously operated some longer international flights in 2006 and 2007 with a B737-400 wet-lease from Futura International Airways (FH, Palma de Mallorca Son Sant Joan (PMI)) at the time.

Futura International Airways (FH, Palma de Mallorca Son Sant Joan (PMI)) has lost its air operator certificate on September 22 and plans to resume operations have been put on hold. Its cargo subsidiary FlyAnt (FYA/Vitoria) had continued limited operations using the AOCs of customers Agroar Carga Aérea (GRR/Evora) and Air One (AP/Rome Fiumicino) but has now also suspended all operations.

Futura International Airways (FH, Palma de Mallorca Son Sant Joan (PMI)) , Futura Gael (FGL/Dublin) and FlyAnt (FYA/Vitoria) have suspended operations on September 7 because of financial difficulties of the Futura group. The carriers had announced plans to immediately restart operations under bankruptcy protection with approximately 50% of its fleets and staff but these plans have not yet materialized. The failure of Futura had an impact on other carriers such as Air Algérie (AH/Algiers), Arke Fly (OR/Amsterdam), Binter Canarias (NT/Las Palmas), Blue Air (Romania) (0B/Bucharest Baneasa), Blue Panorama Airlines (BV/Rome Fiumicino), Jetairfly (TB/Brussels Ntl), JetX (GX/Reykjavik Keflavik) and Sun Express (XQ/Antalya) that had all wet-leased one or several B737s from the carrier. EuroAtlantic Airways (MM/Lisbon) and Pegasus Airlines (H9/Istanbul Ataturk) have reportedly shown interest in taking over Futura out of bankruptcy protection.
