30AUG2012: Canary Islands regional Islas Airways in financial difficulties
Islas Airways (IF, Tenerife Norte (TFN)) is in major financial troubles having reportedly not paid salaries to its employees since May. It has now also laid off approximately 30 of its 250 employees and plans to introduce short time work for the remaining workers. Islas competes with Binter Canarias (NT, Las Palmas Gran Canaria International (LPA)) operating three ATR 72-200s and three ATR 72-500s on routes linking the Canary Islands.
