16APR2013: LATAM Airline Group’s Bolivian operating licenses reinstated
LAN Airlines (LA, Santiago de Chile Arturo Merino Benítez International (SCL)) and TAM Linhas Aéreas (JJ, São Paulo Congonhas International (CGH)) have gotten back their operational licenses from the Authority for the Regulation and Control of Bolivian Telecommunications and Transport (ATT). Owing to bureaucratic bungling, both carriers had their permits suspended on February 15 leaving them with only provisional permits. While they could operate flights into the country, they were not able to freely sell seats. LAN connects La Paz El Alto (LPB) and Santa Cruz Viru Viru International (VVI) to Iquique Diego Aracena International (IQQ), Lima Jorge Chávez International (LIM) and Santiago de Chile Arturo Merino Benítez International (SCL) while TAM links Asuncion Silvio Pettirossi International (ASU) with Santa Cruz.

At present, TAM uses its B767-300(ER)s on flights from Miami International (MIA) and had originally planned to phase them out in favour of newer A330-200s.

TAM will leave Star Alliance during the second quarter of 2014 and join oneworld instead as it has already been widely expected ever since the merger of LAN and TAM into LATAM Airlines Group. In other news, TAM has converted outstanding Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac (TLS)) orders for 17 A320-200s and six A319-100s to 23 larger A321-200s.
