11MAR2013: TAM and LAN Colombia to join oneworld, TAM wants more A321s
TAM Linhas Aéreas (JJ, São Paulo Congonhas International (CGH)) and LAN Colombia (4C, Bogotá El Nuevo Dorado International (BOG)) will both join Oneworld alliance according to an announcement made by parent LATAM Airlines Group. LAN Colombia will become an affiliate member of the alliance before the end of 2013 joining sister carriers LAN Airlines (LA, Santiago de Chile Arturo Merino Benítez International (SCL)), LAN Argentina (4M, Buenos Aires Aeroparque Jorge Newberry (AEP)), LAN Ecuador (XL, Quito Internacional (UIO)) and LAN Perú (LP, Lima Jorge Chávez International (LIM)). TAM will leave Star Alliance during the second quarter of 2014 and join oneworld instead as it has already been widely expected ever since the merger of LAN and TAM into LATAM Airlines Group. In other news, TAM has converted outstanding Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac (TLS)) orders for 17 A320-200s and six A319-100s to 23 larger A321-200s. It currently operates 27 A319-100s, 85 A320-200s and nine A321-200s on short-haul flights.

20DEC2012: American to codeshare with LAN Colombia and TAM
American Airlines (AA, Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW)) has asked for regulatory approval to be allowed to codeshare with LATAM Airlines Group subsidiaries LAN Colombia (4C, Bogotá El Nuevo Dorado International (BOG)) and more interestingly with TAM Linhas Aéreas (JJ, São Paulo Congonhas International (CGH)). The codeshare agreement with TAM has to be approved by Brazilian authorities and it is expected that it will take up to 11 months to gain approval for the proposed cooperation. While TAM has yet to officially announce a decision on whether it wants to continue to stay in Star Alliance or join Oneworld of which LAN Airlines (LA, Santiago de Chile Arturo Merino Benítez International (SCL)) is a member, this move will add oneworld member American as its third US codeshare partner after United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare International (ORD)) and US Airways (US, Phoenix Sky Harbor International (PHX)).
