09FEB2013: Sky King secures DIP financing, fined for public charter violations
Sky King (5K, Lakeland Linder Regional (LAL)) has announced that it has secured Debtor in Possession from a group of investors headed by aviation entrepreneur Daniel Carson allowing it to continue restructuring its operations under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Sky King currently operates four B737-400s on charter services and had filed for bankruptcy protection back on September 28, 2012 blaming the earlier bankruptcy of its customer Direct Air (D1, Myrtle Beach International (MYR)) as one of the reasons for its financial difficulties. The US Department of Transportation has now also fined Sky King $500,000 USD for the violation of public charter regulations related to the bankruptcy of Direct Air where several operators that have already been fined like Sky King had continued to operate charter flights for Direct Air despite non-payment and then left passengers stranded following Direct Air's bankruptcy.

05DEC2012: Vision Airlines fined for not operating Direct Air charters
Vision Airlines (USA) (V2, Las Vegas McCarran International (LAS)) has been fined by the US Department of Transportation for not operating flights on behalf of public charter carrier Direct Air (D1, Myrtle Beach International (MYR)) back in March when Direct Air had run out of funds and been forced to suspend operations. According to US legislation, the operators of such public charter flights are not allowed to cancel flights less than 10 days before scheduled departure and need to have security arrangements with the charterer to ensure they are paid for these flights. Vision just like World Atlantic Airlines (K8, Miami International (MIA)) and Xtra Airways (XP, Elko Regional (EKO)) had just immediately cancelled all Direct Air flights leaving customers stranded violating these rules. The two other carriers had been fined by the DOT earlier already.

30SEP2012: US charter carrier Sky King files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection
Sky King (5K, Lakeland Linder Regional (LAL)) has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Friday, September 28 as the second US carrier on the same day following Southern Air (9S, Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International (CVG)). Sky King currently operates a B737-200 Adv. and four B737-400s on behalf of tour operators, casinos and the government. Sky King has blamed the bankruptcy of Direct Air (D1, Myrtle Beach International (MYR)) in spring 2012, one of its key customers for which it had operated scheduled public charter services, as one of the key reasons for the bankruptcy filing. It hopes to be able to restructure its debts and get better contracts from its suppliers to eventually reemerge from bankruptcy protection again.
