China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN)) and Hainan Airlines (HU, Haikou Meilan International (HAK)) are not yet able to take delivery of their first B787-8s that have already left the assembly line at Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare International (ORD)) as the Civil Aviation Administration of China does not want to certify the aircraft type yet given the recent series of incidents with other aircraft of the type. China Southern and Hainan both have ten B787-8s on order. Xiamen Airlines (MF, Xiamen Gaoqi International (XMN)) also plans to take delivery of six B787-8s but has later delivery positions from 2014 onwards.

China Airlines (CI, Taipei Taoyuan International (TPE)) as well as mainland Chinese Skyteam partners China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN)), China Eastern Airlines (MU, Shanghai Hongqiao International (SHA)) and Xiamen Airlines (MF, Xiamen Gaoqi International (XMN)) have jointly announced a new program called Greater China Connection. The program will provide passengers on any Skyteam flights from Taiwan to China or Hong Kong Chep Lap Kok International (HKG) and between Hong Kong Chep Lap Kok International (HKG) and China with additional frequent flier benefits and tickets that will allow combinations of or changes between the carriers.

Xiamen Airlines (MF, Xiamen Gaoqi International (XMN)) has a new shareholder after Jizhong Energy Resources, one of China's largest coal producers, has acquired a 15% stake in the Skyteam member from Hubei Aviation Investment Group for approximately $308 million USD. China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN)) remains the majority shareholder in Xiamen Airlines and currently still owns 51% of the shares.

Xiamen Airlines (MF, Xiamen Gaoqi International (XMN)) will officially join Skyteam alliance as its third Chinese member airline on November 15 following China Eastern Airlines (MU, Shanghai Hongqiao International (SHA)) and China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN)). China Southern owns 51% of Xiamen Airlines which operates 15 B737-700s, 61 B737-800s and 6 B757-200s with major bases at Fuzhou Changle (FOC), Hangzhou Xiaoshan International (HGH) and Xiamen Gaoqi International (XMN).

Xiamen Airlines (MF, Xiamen Gaoqi International (XMN)) has announced plans to order 40 additional B737-800s with the details yet to be finalized with Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare International (ORD)). The China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN)) subsidiary expects to take delivery of the aircraft between 2016 and 2019. It currently operates a fleet of 15 B737-700s, 58 B737-800s and 6 B757-200s and has 6 B787-8s and 14 additional B737-800s on order. Its key bases besides Xiamen are at Fuzhou Changle (FOC), Hangzhou Xiaoshan International (HGH), Quanzhou Jinjiang (JJN) and Xi'an Xianyang International (XIY).
