  • Read More 03FEB2013: Red Wings license suspended following crash
Red Wings (WZ, Moscow Vnukovo) has announced that it will suspend all operations from the evening of February 3 as Russia civil aviation authority Rosaviatsia has suspended its operating license. Rosaviatsia has said that it would have suspended Red Wings' license following an investigation into the crash of a Red Wings Tu-204-100 at Moscow Vnukovo on December 29, 2012. According to the authority, the investigation would have revealed financial difficulties at the carrier that would impact the safety of flight operations. Red Wings owner Alexander Lebedev has meanwhile said that the license suspension was "without a reason" suggesting it would be part of a political campaign against him. He said he had no intention to resume operations with Red Wings' fleet of eight Tu-204-100s in the future. The carrier has operated domestic scheduled flights as well as leisure charter services to destinations abroad on behalf of Russian tour operators. Red Wings has arranged tickets with competitors Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo) and VIM Airlines (NN, Moscow Domodedovo) for its passengers booked on future domestic flights.
