13MAY2013: New Uruguayan airline, Alas-U, to begin flights in Q4 of this year
Alas-U (Montevideo Carrasco (MVD)) is the name of a planned new start-up set to begin flights between October and December of this year. Set up by ex-PLUNA (PU, Montevideo Carrasco (MVD)) employees, Alas-U is supported by USD15million in funding from Uruguay's State Development Fund. Regarding possible equipment, union boss Nicolás de los Santos has neither confirmed, nor denied, previous reports that Alas-U intends to use seven ex-PLUNA CRJ-900s for initial flights. A similar initiative, COOPLUNA (Montevideo Carrasco (MVD)), founded by roughly 500 ex-PLUNA trade unionists, had originally planned to launch flights in April also using a fleet of ex-PLUNA CRJ-900s though, at this time, its status is unknown.

18NOV2012: BQB plans to add first A320-200 for charter services
BQB Líneas Aéreas (5Q, Montevideo Carrasco (MVD)) plans to lease a first A320-200 in February 2013 that will complement the airline's two ATR 72-500 and a third ATR 72-500 that will be added to its fleet. Unlike the ATR 72-500s, it plans to first use the A320-200 for charter services. BQB now seems to have given up or at least delayed plans to use former PLUNA (PU, Montevideo Carrasco (MVD)) CRJ-900s to massively increase scheduled services and is instead adding additional ATR 72-500s to grow slower.

21OCT2012: BQB plans Paraguay operation, to lease all seven Cosmo CRJ-900s?
BQB Líneas Aéreas (5Q, Montevideo Carrasco (MVD)) has announced plans to set-up a sister carrier based at Asuncion Silvio Pettirossi International (ASU) to operate regional services within Paraguay and to neighbouring countries. BQB is reportedly going to dry lease all seven ex-PLUNA (PU, Montevideo Carrasco (MVD)) CRJ-900s Cosmo Airlines (Madrid Barajas (MAD)) has recently acquired from the Uruguayan government in an auction. It has said that it would however only do that if it is able to use the traffic rights of PLUNA (PU, Montevideo Carrasco (MVD)) on routes from Uruguay given there is no other local competitor. BQB would then hire up to 200 former PLUNA employees if the plan goes ahead.
