25APR2013: Air Atlanta Icelandic expecting its first ex-Ryan International A330-200
Air Atlanta Icelandic (CC, Reykjavik Keflavik (KEF)) is set to receive its first A330-200, a former Ryan International Airlines (RN, Wichita Mid-Continent (ICT)) aircraft (ex-N772RD / c/n 343), and will register the aircraft as TF-EAA. The new arrival will bring the Icelandic ACMI specialist's fleet up to one A330-200, one A340-300, nine B747-400s and four B747-400(F)s.

02APR2013: Ryan International to be resurrected as Astrajet
Ryan International Airlines (RN, Wichita Mid-Continent (ICT)) is to be rebranded and transformed into Astrajet (Orlando Sanford International (SFB)), an international commercial carrier, according to plans outlined by new owner, Orlando-based AJET Holdings. AJET, a former Ryan International client, acquired the debt-ridden airline’s assets for $1.1million USD after it went into liquidation in January. Under its revised business plan, Astrajet will likely offer military and leisure tour charter flights, but will instead be based out of Florida and will lease aircraft from other operators, before staffing and re-leasing them out to other carriers in turn. Initial destinations are set to include South America, England, the Far East and Hawaii.

13JAN2013: Ryan International stops operations, enters liquidation
Ryan International Airlines (RN, Wichita Mid-Continent (ICT)) has ceased all remaining charter operations on January 11 and has entered liquidation. The US charter carrier had already filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March 2012 and has now terminated the contracts of all of its employees and parked its remaining fleet of one A330-200, two B767-300ERs and two MD-83s. According to CEO Jeff Potter the overall economy, the massive decreases in US Department of Defense charter demand and disputes with Atlasjet Airlines (KK, Antalya (AYT)) over a wet-lease contract for its A330-200 as the main reasons for the final decision to liquidate the airline.

Ryan International Airlines (RN, Wichita Mid-Continent (ICT)) has replaced its single A330-300 N771RD (c/n 1231) previously sub-leased from Virgin Atlantic (VS, London Heathrow (LHR)) by a first ex-Atlasjet Airlines (KK, Antalya (AYT)) A330-200 N772RD (c/n 343). It is expected to mainly use the aircraft on charter services on behalf of the US government transporting troops.
