29MAR2013: Tarom restructuring plan to include job cuts, fleet renewal
Tarom (RO, Bucharest Otopeni Henri Coanda International (OTP)) has announced a restructuring plan aimed at allowing the Romanian national carrier to become profitable again by 2015 after years of heavy losses. As part of the plan, Tarom will cut up to 10% of its jobs reducing its staff to around 1500. In addition, it plans to renegotiate its agreement with Skyteam and suppliers to save costs. According to CEO Christian Heinzmann Tarom is also reviewing fleet options with Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac (TLS)), Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare International (ORD)) and Mitsubishi (Tokyo Haneda (HND)) to renew its fleet and to decrease the amount of different aircraft types operated. Tarom currently operates one A310-300, four A318-100s, four B737-300s, four B737-700s, one B737-800, two ATR72-500s and seven ATR42-500s.

22DEC2012: Tarom privatization put on hold by Romanian government
Tarom (RO, Bucharest Otopeni Henri Coanda International (OTP)) will not be privatized for the time being according to statements made by the Romanian government. It had originally planned to put minority stakes for several state controlled entities up for sale but after the recent elections has now decided to postpone these plans until the end of 2013 now.

26NOV2012: Millemiglia frequent flier plan to be stopped by Alitalia
Alitalia (AZ, Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International (FCO)) has announced that it will give up its Millemiglia frequent flier program by the end of 2012. Although not yet officially announced, it is expected that Alitalia will instead join its partner Air France-KLM's Flying Blue FFP which has also already been adopted by Aircalin (SB, Nouméa La Tontouta International (NOU)), Air Europa (UX, Palma de Mallorca Son Sant Joan (PMI)), Kenya Airways (KQ, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International (NBO)) and Tarom (RO, Bucharest Otopeni Henri Coanda International (OTP)) as their customer's loyalty plan.

05OCT2012: Iasi to be Tarom's second Romanian base from December
Tarom (RO, Bucharest Otopeni Henri Coanda International (OTP)) CEO Sorin Georgescu has announced plans to set up a second base in its home country Romania from December 1. It plans to initially operate to Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International (FCO) from its new base at Iasi International (IAS) and to then add London Heathrow (LHR) and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) as the next new international destinations. Tarom is also considering other new international and domestic routes from Iasi. Its only routes currently bypassing its home base at Bucharest's Otopeni airport are from Cluj-Napoca Someseni (CLJ) to Vienna International (VIE) and from Sibiu (SBZ) to Munich Franz Josef Strauss International (MUC).
