  • Read More 16JUN2013: SAS' Widerøe sell off gets greenlight from Norwegian regulators
SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK, Copenhagen Kastrup) is aiming to complete the sale of an 80% stake in Norwegian subsidiary, Wideroe (WF, Bodø), to a group of investors consisting of Torghatten ASA, Fjord1 AS and Nordland Fylkeskommune, by the end of September after receiving the go-ahead for the deal from Norway’s competition authorities. Widerøe's sale is expected to raise proceeds of USD310million (SEK2 billion) and is aimed squarely at improving SAS Group’s financial liquidity and reducing debt. SAS will retain a 20% share in Widerøe but will have an option to transfer full ownership of Widerøe in 2016. The two carriers still intend to carry on their commercial cooperation after the sale is completed.

SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK, Copenhagen Kastrup) has agreed to lease two more brand new B737-800s from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) for delivery in 2014. The announcement was made following the successful delivery of the Scandinavian operator's seventh -800 type as part of its fleet expansion and modernization drive. SAS now operates twenty-seven 737-800s in total.

SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK, Copenhagen Kastrup) is to complete the phased retirement of its fleet of nine MD-82s on October 26 to pave way for younger, more fuel efficient Airbus A320s. Amongst the festivities planned to mark the retirement of the type are a charter flight around the three Scandinavian capitals in the classic aircraft, a scheduled flight and an official send off ceremony set for Copenhagen Kastrup. According to the organizers, the charter flight will pass through the Arctic Circle in northern Norway, with a low fly past of the city of Bodø. A second event is set to take place on the day of the last MD-82's flight on October 26 and will involve a scheduled flight, SK403, operating from Stockholm Arlanda to Copenhagen Kastrup. Finally, a short farewell ceremony to wave the last MD82s off will be held at SAS' Scandinavian Lounge at Copenhagen. SAS has a long relationship with the MD-8X and its predecessor, the DC-9, which began with the delivery of its first DC-9-20 in 1968.

Jet Time (JTG, Copenhagen Kastrup) is set to add its first B737-400 to its growing family of thirteen Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare) 737s. Reports state that the Danish carrier will now add an ex-SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK, Copenhagen Kastrup) B737-400, LN-BRI (msn 24644), to its fleet in the near future. Founded in 2006, Jet Time specializes in contract and ad-hoc passenger and freight charters throughout Europe as well as short-notice wet-leases for scheduled airlines.

Eastar Jet (ZE, Seoul Gimpo) has announced the retirement of its only B737-600, HL7781 (msn 28302), leaving just five operators of the type left in the world: Air Algérie (AH, Algier), SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK, Copenhagen Kastrup), Tunisair (TU, Tunis), URS Federal Services (Las Vegas McCarran) and WestJet (WS, Calgary). Designed as a replacement for the B737-500 and a competitor to the A318-100, the 737-600 sold just sixty-nine of the aircraft. As of 2012, Boeing has removed the 737-600 from its aircraft price list, presumably indicating the variant is now out of production.
