22OCT2012: 44% in Royal Air Maroc up for sale to Gulf carriers
Royal Air Maroc (AT, Casablanca Mohamed V International (CMN)) could be partially privatized later this or early next year if the Moroccan government can find an interested buyer. Morocco's King Mohammed has proposed to sell 44% in the carrier to a carrier based in the Middle East and is personally holding government level talks with Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates about potential interest by their respective national carriers Royal Jordanian (RJ, Amman Queen Alia International (AMM)), Kuwait Airways (KU, Kuwait (KWI)), Qatar Airways (QR, Doha International (DOH)), Saudi Arabian Airlines (SV, Jeddah King Abdul Aziz (JED)), Emirates (EK, Dubai International (DXB)) and Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International (AUH)) in an investment in Royal Air Maroc. The Moroccan national carrier has grown its network aggressively over the last couple of years to establish Casablanca Mohamed V International (CMN) as a transit hub between Africa and destinations in Europe and North America but is currently producing losses.

Saudia (SV, Jeddah King Abdul Aziz (JED)) is the new and old name of Saudi Arabian Airlines (SV, Jeddah King Abdul Aziz (JED)) which now again operates under its previous name that it had already used between 1972 and 1996. The Saudi national carrier decided to rebrand at part of its move to join Skyteam alliance last month.
