28SEP2012: Gambia Bird sets launch date as October 15
Gambia Bird (3G, Banjul International (BJL)) CCO Karsten Balke has confirmed October 15 as the launch date for the first Gambia Bird flights. It initially plans to operate four weekly flights from Banjul to Dakar Yoff-Léopold Sédar Senghor International (DKR), twice weekly services via Freetown Lungi International (FNA) and Monrovia Roberts (ROB) to Lagos Murtala Muhammad (LOS) and weekly services from Banjul via Conakry G'bessia International (CKY) to Accra Kotoka (ACC), to Barcelona El Prat International (BCN) and London Gatwick (LGW) as well as between Freetown Lungi International (FNA) and London Gatwick (LGW) with its single A319-100 D-ASTA (c/n 4663) wet-leased from parent Germania Express (L3, Berlin Schönefeld (SXF)).

Gambia Bird (3G, Banjul International (BJL)) is now expected to launch in early October and will shortly take delivery of its first A319-100 D-ASTA (c/n 4663) on wet-lease from 90% shareholder Germania Express (L3, Berlin Schönefeld (SXF)). Conakry G'bessia International (CKY), Dakar Yoff-Léopold Sédar Senghor International (DKR), Freetown Lungi International (FNA), London Gatwick (LGW) and Lagos Murtala Muhammad (LOS) have been mentioned as the first destinations it wishes to serve from Banjul.

Flynext (L3, Nuremberg (NUE)) will be rebranded as Germania Express (L3, Berlin Schönefeld (SXF)) on July 1 to better reflect its main business which currently are wet-lease operations on behalf of sister carrier Germania (ST, Berlin Tegel (TXL)) with two A319-100s.
