08MAY2013: Singapore's Tiger Airways to acquire 38 A320s for its subsidiaries
Tiger Airways (TR, Singapore Changi International (SIN)) is to acquire thirty-eight A320-200s from Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac (TLS)) for delivery in 2015 the airline has announced. Following their arrivals, the A320s will be distributed to Tiger Airways Singapore, Tiger Airways Australia (TT, Melbourne Tullamarine International (MEL)), Tiger Airways Indonesia (RI, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK)) and Tiger Airways Philippines (DG, Clark Diosdado Macapagal International (CRK)). According to the PhilippineFlightNetwork, while it is unclear exactly how many of the 38 new aircraft are expected to enter Tiger's Philippine subsidiary, South East Asian Airlines (DG, Clark Diosdado Macapagal International (CRK)), previous reports have suggested that the airline will be receiving 2-3 aircraft per year. Over the next five years, SEAir CEO Olive Ramos has stated that the airline would like to offer more international flights out of Clark, Cebu Mactan International (CEB), and Davao Francisco Bangoy International (DVO) as well as opening up more tourist and commuter routes to Naga (WNP), Tagbilaran (TAG), Cagayan de Oro Lumbia (CGY), Zamboanga International (ZAM), General Santos Buayan (GES) and Bongao Sanga-Sanga (SGS). Legaspi (LGP) is also on the cards given the pending pullout of Zest Air (Z2, Manila Ninoy Aquino International (MNL)) from the route later this month. Internationally, during the course of this year, SEAir is planning to launch an international flight to Phuket International (HKT) while in 2014, flights to Taiwan, Korea, and Japan are also planned.

05APR2013: Mandala to acquire 18 A320s by 2014 in bid to capture 20% marketshare
Mandala Airlines (RI, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK)) is planning to buy 18 Airbus A320-200s worth USD$1.6 billion by 2014, in an effort to meet the growing demand for cheap and easy accessible air travel in South-east Asia's largest economy, Indonesia. According to Sandiaga Uno, CEO of investment firm Saratoga Investama Sedaya, which holds a 51% stake in the Indonesian carrier, Mandala's operational target is to capture a 20% market share by flying two million passengers per year aboard a fleet of 25 aircraft. According to Airwise, "Mandala will use an existing option held by minority shareholder, Tiger Airways (TR, Singapore Changi International (SIN)), to buy the Airbus jets." Mandala currently operates seven Airbus A320s on domestic routes and partners with Tiger Airways on international flights.

08JAN2013: Virgin's plan to buy majority in Tiger Australia uncertain
Virgin Australia (VA, Brisbane International (BNE)) is facing headwinds from Australia's Competition and Consumer Commission with the ACCC chairman Rod Sims publicly expressing concerns about Virgin's plan to acquire a 60% majority stake in low-cost carrier Tiger Airways Australia (TT, Melbourne Tullamarine International (MEL)) as it would eliminate a third carrier challenging Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith (SYD)) and Virgin. Virgin Australia had announced in late October 2012 that it plans to acquire the stake from Tiger Airways (TR, Singapore Changi International (SIN)) but has not yet received government approval for the transaction. No final decision has been made by the ACCC with Sims also seeing benefits of a Virgin-Tiger tie-up as an expansion of Tiger Airways Australia would possibly increase competition with Qantas low-cost carrier JetStar Airways (JQ, Melbourne Tullamarine International (MEL)).

09DEC2012: SEAir International receives AOC, launches operations
SEAir International (Clark Diosdado Macapagal International (CRK)) has received its air operator certificate on November 21 and has now resumed twice weekly Do328-100 service between Manila Ninoy Aquino International (MNL) and Basco (BSO) from December 7. SEAir International had been split off from South East Asian Airlines (DG, Clark Diosdado Macapagal International (CRK)) earlier this year after the sale of 40% of SEAir to Tiger Airways (TR, Singapore Changi International (SIN)). SEAir International currently operates one of the four Do328-100s previously operated by South East Asian Airlines as well as B737-200(F) RP-C4737 (MSN 23065) for cargo services. It plans to add additional ex-South East Asian Do328s and Let 410s and to resume more regional routes from early 2013.

31OCT2012: Virgin Australia to acquire Skywest and 60% of Tiger Airways Australia
Virgin Australia (VA, Brisbane International (BNE)) has announced that it has agreed in principle to acquire 100% of its publicly listed partner Skywest Airlines (Australia) (XR, Perth International (PER)) and will make a cash and shares offer to its existing shareholders. Skywest currently operates six ATR 72-500s and two ATR 72-600s on behalf of Virgin Australia on regional services from Brisbane and Sydney Kingsford Smith (SYD). Skywest's remaining fleet consists of an A320-200, ten Fokker 100s and eight Fokker 50s that operate scheduled services as well as mining charters in Western Australia. Virgin Australia has announced two separate transactions on the same day including a plan to acquire 60% in low-cost carrier Tiger Airways Australia (TT, Melbourne Tullamarine International (MEL)) from Tiger Airways (TR, Singapore Changi International (SIN)) for $35 million AUD ($36 million USD). Tiger and Virgin plan to expand Tiger's Australia based A320-200 fleet from 11 to 35 aircraft by 2018 to establish it as a more relevant competitor to Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith (SYD))'s JetStar Airways (JQ, Melbourne Tullamarine International (MEL)) low-cost carrier subsidiary. Tiger shareholder Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi International (SIN)) will take a 10% stake in Virgin Australia as part of the cooperation the two carriers have already launched.
