bmibaby (WW, East Midlands (EMA)) is operating its last flights on September 9 as previously announced by new parent British Airways (BA, London Heathrow (LHR)) marking the end of the ten year history of the low-cost carrier initially set-up by bmi british midland (BD, East Midlands (EMA)). Recently, it had still operated ten B737-300s and two B737-500s from bases at Birmingham International (BHX) and East Midlands (EMA).

Aer Lingus (EI, Dublin International (DUB)) is reportedly considering moving its operations in Northern Ireland from Belfast Aldergrove International (BFS) to Belfast George Best City (BHD) according to a report by the BBC. Aer Lingus currently has two A319-100s and an A320-200 based at Belfast International. Belfast City airport had recently lost one of its main customers after low-cost carrier bmibaby (WW, East Midlands (EMA)) has closed its base there. British Airways (BA, London Heathrow (LHR)) (taking over from bmi british midland (BD, East Midlands (EMA))), Flybe. (BE, Exeter International (EXT)) and Manx2 (NM, Isle of Man Ronaldsway (IOM)) currently serve Belfast City while Aer Lingus, easyJet (U2, London Luton (LTN)), Jet2 (LS, Leeds/Bradford International (LBA)), Thomas Cook Airlines UK (MT, Manchester Ringway International (MAN)), Thomson Airways (BY, London Luton (LTN)) and United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare International (ORD)) operate from Belfast International.

British Airways (BA, London Heathrow (LHR)) is planning to move six B737-300s currently operated by subsidiary bmibaby (WW, East Midlands (EMA)) to its own operation at London Gatwick (LGW) where the aircraft will replace larger and older B737-400s.

Jet2 (LS, Leeds/Bradford International (LBA)) will base an additional B737-300 at East Midlands (EMA) this winter to make use of the void left by the closure of bmibaby (WW, East Midlands (EMA)). It plans to add new routes to Chambéry Aix-lès-Bains (CMF), Dubrovnik (DBV), Geneva Cointrin (GVA), Ibiza (IBZ), Larnaca (LCA), Las Palmas Gran Canaria International (LPA), Menorca Mahón (MAH) and Nice Côte d'Azur (NCE) over the course of the next 12 months.

Monarch Airlines (ZB, London Luton (LTN)) has reacted to the bmibaby (WW, East Midlands (EMA)) closure plans by announcing a new base at East Midlands (EMA) from where it will launch new scheduled services to leisure destinations such as Alicante (ALC), Faro (FAO), Malaga Pablo Ruiz Picasso (AGP) and Palma de Mallorca Son Sant Joan (PMI) from late summer without publishing a launch date or schedules yet. It also plans to replace bmibaby on the Birmingham International (BHX)-Barcelona El Prat International (BCN) route.
