germanwings future to be reviewed in spring 2013
germanwings (4U, Cologne/Bonn) and its future role within the Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt Int'l) group of airlines will be reviewed again in spring 2013 according to statements made by executive board member Carsten Spohr to Financial Times Deutschland. The loss making low-cost carrier could be closed or merged with Lufthansa's own short-haul services outside its Frankfurt Int'l and Munich hubs if it is not able to improve its financial performance. Lufthansa is currently reviewing all of its options as part of its "Score" cost savings plan. Last year, germanwings reported a net loss of EUR 54 million and revenues of approximately EUR 687 million.
