Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Int'l) CEO Akbar Al Baker has met with Saudi authorities this week discussing plans for a new start-up carrier in Saudi Arabia making use of the policy changes announced earlier this year allowing foreign carriers to operate domestically within Saudi Arabia. Al Baker however made an investment in Saudi Arabia dependent on reforms that would have to be implemented first such as the removal of the fare caps currently in place on domestic routes. Qatar currently only serves Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
