Thomson Airways (London Luton) officially took delivery of its first B787-8, G-TUIA (msn 34422), on Friday May 31. The aircraft's inaugural flights are expected to start on July 8 with Cancún and Orlando Sanford. Sources at Boeing report that the airline's sister carrier, Jetairfly (Brussels National), is expected to receive its first Dreamliner in late November or early December. Meanwhile, parent company, TUI Travel, is steeling its subsidiaries Thomson Airways, Jetairfly, TUI fly (Germany) (X3, Hannover), TUI fly Nordic (6B, Stockholm Arlanda), Arke Fly (Amsterdam Schiphol) and Corsair International (SS, Paris Orly) for tough future competition after it announced a deal worth USD6.9billion with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for forty 737 MAX-8s and twenty 737 MAX-9s with additional options for a further ninety 737 MAXs. The whole deal with Boeing is still subject to shareholder approval though. Should it get the go-ahead, the 60 aircraft are slated for delivery between January 2018 and March 2023 and will be powered by CFM International Leap-1B engines.
