germanwings (4U, Cologne/Bonn) has confirmed during a press conference regarding its brand relaunch on July 1 that it does not plan to keep the wet-lease agreement with Eurowings (EW, Düsseldorf) in the long run. As part of the transition of Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) routes from Berlin Tegel, Düsseldorf and Hamburg Helmut Schmidt to germanwings (4U, Cologne/Bonn), it will also start wet-leasing 23 CRJ900s from Eurowings currently operating from Dusseldorf and Hamburg. From October 27, it will wet-lease six CRJ-900s for routes out of Hamburg. germanwings wants to transition to an all-Airbus fleet and expects Eurowings CRJ-900s to be either operating for Lufthansa again or to operate Airbus aircraft on behalf of germanwings in the long run.
