US Airways (Phoenix Sky Harbor) will have left Star Alliance and joined Oneworld come the beginning of 2014, J. Scott Kirby, the airline’s president, has said. The move comes as its merger with American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) is set to close in late Q3 pending European and US regulatory approval. The combined entity, which will operate as American Airlines, will be the world’s largest airline in terms of passenger traffic, eclipsing rivals United Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) and Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson).
