Royal Jordanian (RJ, Amman Queen Alia) is looking to acquire traffic rights between Vienna and the United States as it targets new routes to Los Angeles International and Miami International, newspaper Der Standard has reported. The Austrian newspaper says the Jordanian government is currently negotiating the rights through a revised Bilateral Air Services Agreement with the Austrian Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT). Home carrier Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna) could reportedly express some reservations about the issuance of traffic rights on the route given its growing interest in serving the United States. Should the agreement be finalized, Royal Jordanian would likely launch its new service in mid-2014 using either an A330-200 or its first B787-8.
