Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) and the Thai Minister of Transport, Chadchart Sittipunt, have rejected reports circulating via social media that the airline is facing bankruptcy. The rumours had claimed that a political group linked to ousted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra was trying to force the airline into filing for bankruptcy by May this year in a bid to give Mr Shinawatra control of the board. In an interview with the Bangkok Post, Mr Sittipunt said the rumours were "groundless" adding that Thai Airways could never go broke given government's 51% stake in the airline. Despite its THB6.35billion (USD190million) loss in the third quarter of last year, the company still has high liquidity and has a clear plan for debt repayment, he said.
