  • Read More 06JUN2013: Nigeria's Hak Air and West Link Airlines granted AOCs by regulators
    Hak Air (Lagos) and West Link Airlines (Abuja) have been granted their respective Air Operators Certificates (AOC) by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority it has emerged. The AOC will now allow Hak Air to deploy its fleet of four ex-Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) B737-400s into revenue service following their acquisition last year. The Lagos-based carrier, previously known for its Hajj and Umrah operations, also holds rights to Port Harcourt Omagwa to London Gatwick though it still unknown as to how and when it will service the route. For its part, West Link is a charter operation who also specialize in Umrah flights. It is run by Ibrahim Mshelia, who owns Africa Contracts and Equipment and the Mish Aviation School in Ghana.

    Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) will officially join Skyteam in March 2014, the alliance's director, Michael Wisbrun, has confirmed. Originally announced in 2011, Garuda's membership of SkyTeam had been delayed due to the incompatibility of its previous reservations system which is now being replaced by the Amadeus Altea platform. The alliance membership is part of the Indonesian carrier's "Quantum Leap" investment programme in which it aims to have 154 aircraft in service within three years, with a total throughput of more than 32 million passengers by the end of 2015.

    Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) plans to firm its options for eighteen CRJ-1000s with Bombardier (BBA, Montréal Trudeau) bringing its CRJ1000 fleet to thirty-six. The options are part of a deal for 6+18 CRJ1000s signed with the Canadian manufacturer during the Singapore Airshow in February 2012. 12 additional CRJ-1000s are being leased from lessor Nordic Aviation Capital. Confirming the move, Garuda President and CEO, Emirsyah Satar, said that operating the Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen is part of the airline’s "Quantum Leap 2011–2015" program which aims to rejuvenate and expand the Indonesian national carrier's fleet from 94 to 194 aircraft by 2015.

    Batik Air (ID, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) is to tentatively make its maiden flight on April 26 using a planned fleet of B737-900(ER)s sourced from its parent, Lion Airlines (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta). The full-service airline intends to début operations with Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta to Pekanbaru flights, to be followed by Batam and Manado thereafter. Batik Air also plans to go head-to-head with Indonesian national carrier, Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) on international long-haul routes and has five B787-8s on order through parent Lion.

    Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) has wet-leased B777-300(ER) F-OSYD (MSN 35782) from Air Austral (UU, St. Denis de la Réunion) until the end of June to operate additional services on the busy Jakarta-Jeddah route during the Umrah pilgrimage season. Air Austral currently has surplus B777 aircraft available following its significant long-haul route cuts earlier this and last year.
