08MAY2013: Indonesia's Garuda to firm options for 18 additional CRJ-1000s
Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK)) plans to firm its options for eighteen CRJ-1000s with Bombardier (BBA, Montréal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International (YUL)) bringing its CRJ1000 fleet to thirty-six. The options are part of a deal for 6+18 CRJ1000s signed with the Canadian manufacturer during the Singapore Airshow in February 2012. 12 additional CRJ-1000s are being leased from lessor Nordic Aviation Capital. Confirming the move, Garuda President and CEO, Emirsyah Satar, said that operating the Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen is part of the airline’s "Quantum Leap 2011–2015" program which aims to rejuvenate and expand the Indonesian national carrier's fleet from 94 to 194 aircraft by 2015.

10APR2013: Batik Air set to début operations on April 26 with Jakarta – Pekanbaru
Batik Air (ID, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK)) is to tentatively make its maiden flight on April 26 using a planned fleet of B737-900(ER)s sourced from its parent, Lion Airlines (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK)). The full-service airline intends to début operations with Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK) to Pekanbaru Sultan Syarif Kasim II (PKU) flights, to be followed by Batam Hang Nadim (BTH) and Manado Sam Ratulangi (MDC) thereafter. Batik Air also plans to go head-to-head with Indonesian national carrier, Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK)) on international long-haul routes and has five B787-8s on order through parent Lion.

29MAR2013: Garuda to use Air Austral B777-300(ER) for Umrah flights
Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK)) has wet-leased B777-300(ER) F-OSYD (MSN 35782) from Air Austral (UU, St. Denis de la Réunion Roland Garros (RUN)) until the end of June to operate additional services on the busy Jakarta-Jeddah King Abdul Aziz (JED) route during the Umrah pilgrimage season. Air Austral currently has surplus B777 aircraft available following its significant long-haul route cuts earlier this and last year.

02MAR2013: Lion's Batik Air subsidiary to operate to Australia
Batik Air (ID, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK)) has announced plans for routes from Denpasar Ngurah Rai Bali International (DPS) to Adelaide International (ADL) and Kupang Eltari (KOE) to Darwin International (DRW) as part of its initial route network. The full service subsidiary of Lion Airlines (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK)) plans to launch operations in April or May with a fleet of B737-900(ER)s from Lion's extensive backlog of orders. Batik also plans to compete with national carrier Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK)) on international routes from Jakarta to the ASEAN region, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau, South Korea and Taiwan in the medium term.

24JAN2013: Garuda to retire B737-300s in early February
Garuda Indonesia (GA, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK)) is planning to operate its last scheduled flights with its remaining three B737-300s in early February with flight GA227 from Solo City Adi Sumarmo Wiryokusumo (SOC) to Jakarta on February 6 currently expected to be the last scheduled flight. Garuda for now continues to operate five B737-500s alongside its fleet of 55 B737-800s and five CRJ-1000s.
