Lufthansa Italia (LU, Milan Malpensa) has finally received its own air operator certificate on January 11 of this year but will be closed down by October 29 and its aircraft transferred back to other Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt Intl) owned carriers. It currently operates eight A319-100s from Milan Malpensa to Barcelona, Bari, Catania, Ibiza, Lisbon, London Heathrow, Naples, Olbia, Palermo, Paris CDG, Prague, Stockholm Arlanda and Warsaw. It has introduced new seasonal services this summer season:
Milan Malpensa-Cagliari: 4x weekly seasonal A319-100 service has started on July 2
Milan Malpensa-Palma de Mallorca: 4x weekly A319-100 service has started on July 2
It has already given up its routes from Milan Malpensa to Bucharest Otopeni and Casablanca in October 2010, to Madrid on May 5 and to Budapest on July 1. Lufthansa will continue to offer several daily services from Dusseldorf Intl, Frankfurt Intl, Hamburg Fuhlsbüttel, Munich and Stuttgart to Milan Malpensa. It will also continue to offer codeshare services with Aegean Airlines (A3/Athens) to Athens, Air Malta (KM/Malta) to Malta, Austrian Airlines (OS/Vienna) to Vienna, Brussels Airlines (SN/Brussels Ntl) to Brussels Ntl, Continental Airlines (CO/Houston Intcl) to New York Newark, LOT Polish Airlines (LO/Warsaw) to Warsaw and Swiss (LX/Zurich) to Zurich.

Lufthansa Italia (LU, Milan Malpensa) has launched some seasonal routes and will add two new routes from its Milan Malpensa hub for the IATA winter timetable period:
Milan Malpensa-Casablanca: 2x weekly seasonal A319-100 service between June 26 and September 25
Milan Malpensa-Catania: 6x weekly A319-100 service starting on October 31
Milan Malpensa-Ibiza: 5x weekly seasonal A319-100 service between May 22 and September 25
Milan Malpensa-Prague: daily A319-100 service starting on November 1
Lufthansa Italia will reportedly replace one of its A319-100s by two A320-200s later this year.

Lufthansa Italia (LU, Milan Malpensa) will replace two of its A319-100s by A320-200s that it will exchange with parent Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt Intl). It is expecting to receive its own operating license shortly. It will give up its Milan Malpensa-Rome Fiumicino route on February 15 and will replace it with new routes being launched later this spring:
Milan Malpensa-Olbia: 2x weekly seasonal A319-100 service starting on March 28
Milan Malpensa-Palermo: daily A319-100 service starting on March 28
Milan Malpensa-Stockholm Arlanda: daily A319-100 service starting on March 28
Milan Malpensa-Warsaw: 2x daily A319-100 service starting on March 28
Lufthansa Italia has said that it would continue to be interesting in serving the Milan-Rome market but only if it can obtain slots to operate the route from Milan Linate. It is also expecting to increase its cooperation with sister carrier Air Dolomiti (EN/Verona) that could launch more feeder services from Milan Malpensa in addition to the routes to Perugia and Salerno it already operates.

Lufthansa Italia (LU, Milan Malpensa) services will be operated by its parent Lufthansa (LH/Frankfurt Intl) until fall when Lufthansa Italia is expected to receive its own air operator certificate. Sister carrier Swiss (LX/Zurich) has started codesharing on all Lufthansa Italia services out of Milan Malpensa.

Lufthansa Italia (LU, Milan Malpensa) has been founded as a 100% subsidiary of Lufthansa replacing earlier plans to have Air Dolomiti (EN/Trieste) operate A319-100s out of Milan Malpensa. Lufthansa Italia will start operations in February with six ex-germanwings (4U/Cologne/Bonn) A319-100s:

Milan Malpensa-Brussels Ntl: 2x daily A319-100 service starting on March 2
Milan Malpensa-Bucharest Otopeni: daily A319-100 service starting on March 2
