25MAR2013: Augsburg Airways to be reportedly closed down by October 31
Augsburg Airways (IQ, Munich Franz Josef Strauss International (MUC)) is expected to be liquidated by October 31 of this year when its wet-lease agreements with Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International (FRA)) and Swiss (LX, Zurich Kloten (ZRH)) end according to a report by local newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine. Lufthansa had announced last year that it would not extend its wet-lease agreement with Augsburg Airways from the end of the upcoming IATA summer timetable period. Augsburg Airways currently operates seven Dash 8-400s on behalf of Lufthansa and one for Swiss as well as five EMB-195s for Lufthansa. The EMB-195s are expected to be transferred to Lufthansa subsidiary Lufthansa CityLine (CL, Cologne/Bonn Konrad Adenauer (CGN)).

18MAR2013: Lufthansa confirms Airbus order, Swiss to get B777-300(ER)s
Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International (FRA)) has announced its supervisory board has approved plans to order a total of 108 aircraft for the Lufthansa Group. The orders approved includes two additional A380-800 and 30 A320-200s for Lufthansa as well as six B777-300(ER)s for subsidiary Swiss (LX, Zurich Kloten (ZRH)). Lufthansa is still in talks with Airbus to also finalize an order for 35 A320neo and 35 A321neo aircraft that has however also already been approved by its board.

11MAR2013: Edelweiss Air and Swiss veto Travel Service flights to Egypt for Hotelplan
Edelweiss Air (WK, Zurich Kloten (ZRH)) and parent Swiss (LX, Zurich Kloten (ZRH)) have both vetoed a request from Travel Service Airlines (QS, Prague Vaclav Havel Ruzyne (PRG)) to get traffic rights to operate charter services between Switzerland and Egypt for Swiss tour operator Hotelplan. According to a report by Travel Inside, Edelweiss Air will now operate four weekly flights from Geneva Cointrin (GVA) and Zurich Kloten (ZRH) to Hurghada International (HRG) and Sharm el Sheikh International (SSH) Hotelplan had planned to operate with Travel Service. Hotelplan has however cancelled a planned weekly service from Zurich to Marsa Alam International (RMF). European Union charter operators can only get traffic rights from Switzerland to destinations outside of the EU if non Swiss operator is willing and able to provide a counter offer.

22FEB2013: Lufthansa to buy 108 new aircraft, centralize administration
Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International (FRA)) has announced plans to order 100 new short-haul and 8 new long-haul aircraft later this year. According reports by Aviation Week and Austrian Wings, the orders will likely include six B777-300(ER)s for subsidiary Swiss (LX, Zurich Kloten (ZRH)), two additional A380-800s for Lufthansa and up to 30 Bombardier CSeries aircraft to replace Tyrolean Airways (VO, Innsbruck Kranebitten (INN))'s Fokker 70 and Fokker 100 fleet. As part of its Score restructuring plan, Lufthansa plans to move its headquarters in Cologne and revenue services department in Norderstedt near Hamburg to Frankfurt International (FRA) by 2017. It is also considering moving the headquarters of regional subsidiary Lufthansa CityLine (CL, Cologne/Bonn Konrad Adenauer (CGN)) from Cologne to Munich Franz Josef Strauss International (MUC).

13FEB2013: Augsburg Airways to operate for Swiss from April 1
Augsburg Airways (IQ, Munich Franz Josef Strauss International (MUC)) will wet-lease one of its nine Dash 8-400s to Swiss (LX, Zurich Kloten (ZRH)) from April 1 onwards. The aircraft will be based at Nuremberg (NUE) and operate up to four daily services to Zurich on behalf of Swiss replacing A319-100s, A320-200s and ARJ-100s of Swiss European Air Lines (SWU, Zurich Kloten (ZRH)) currently used on the route.
