19APR2013: Links Air planning Oxford to Jersey, Guernsey, Belfast from mid-May
Links Air (LNQ, Humberside) is due to launch flights from Oxford Kidlington to Jersey, Guernsey and Belfast City using a Jetstream 31 in a move that has raised eyebrows in the aviation industry. Given the unsatisfactory loads Minoan Air (MAV, Heraklion) has seen on its Fokker 50 flights out of Oxford to Dublin Int'l and Edinburgh, industry analysts have reasoned that, in order for Oxford-based flights to become viable in the long run, expansive advertising, coupled with the backing of a respected brand name along the lines of Loganair (LM, Glasgow Int'l) with Flybe. (BE, Exeter) or Aer Arann Regional (RE, Dublin Int'l) with Aer Lingus (EI, Dublin Int'l), is needed in order to attract potential clients. Despite the airline's planned launch date of mid May fast approaching, Links Air's new website, its likely booking portal and information source, is still unavailable.

Minoan Air (MAV, Heraklion) has announced a major change to its strategy and will give up its domestic flights in Greece from January 21 where it currently operates from its main base at Heraklion to Kos, Mytilene, Rhodes and Santorini. In other news, Minoan has also announced plans to base a Fokker 50 at Lugano from March 28 to launch daily flights to Rome Fiumicino (replacing Darwin Airline (F7, Lugano) on the route which has recently stopped its services) and a three times weekly service to Vienna. The Greek regional carrier's fourth Fokker 50 SX-BRM (c/n 20207) is currently operating on behalf of Flyglinjen (Jönköping) between Stockholm Arlanda and Kristianstad.
