GrandStar Cargo International Airlines (Tianjin) has been taken over by Uni-Top, the owners of Uni-top Airlines (Kunming Changshui), after previous 51% shareholder, Sinotrans Air Transportation Development Co (Sinotrans Air) disposed of its stake for just 1 Yuan. While Uni-Top will now inherit GrandStar's debt burden, which in 2012 stood at USD97.2million (CNY600million), the acquisition is seen as strategic as Uni-Top aims to further expand its profitable cargo business to encompass further destinations in Europe and the US through the use of GrandStar's traffic rights and fleet, which currently consists of a single parked B747-400(F), B-2427 (msn 26401). Thus far, the two sides have signed the contract of property rights transaction, though the overall deal is still subject to Chinese regulatory authority approval.
